Had a last minute cancellation by my client on Thursday so no report however, I went straight back at it on Friday. Needless to say, holiday weekend crowd in full effect. First, I got call that below the 499 had light foam all around so I started there. As you know, my “route to work” is always going around the west end of cat. So the first zone , 33 15, 118 39 , got there and marked a wolf pack right away. Figure I’d start with my bars first to determine grade. We hooked two within 15 minutes and they were 20 and 40’pound grade. Kinda not we were looking for. So I pushed out west and marked a ton of fish around 33 02, 118 49. Had one missed blow up and didn’t stick. Lately I’ve been using the “hell raiser” rig which is essentially, 3 hooks, 1 circle and 2 trebles. I feel like it heightens your chances. So I didn’t get bit again til about 4 pm when I pushed away from the crowd to look for my own fish. That zone was 32 56, 118 52. Immediately once I hook a fish, I set out a second bait immediately. Both were he’ll raiser rigs. (I can make you some if you’d like), and we doubled up. Landed both and called it a day! Back out again today. Ended the day with 4 bluefin up to 170lbs.
